Climate Alert Day: Freeze Warning Wednesday morning

A powerful chilly entrance will convey artic air into southeast Louisiana

ATTACK KILLED TWO PEOPLE. ALL RIGHT, WAKE UP ON THIS TUESDAY MORNING. IT’S A WDSU. FIRST WARNING. WEATHER ALERT DAY, JIM. YOU CAN FEEL THAT WIND GOING THROUGH YOUR BONES THIS MORNING. THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING WHEN I STEPPED OUTSIDE, I WAS READY. I HAD THE BIG COAT, BUT I DIDN’T QUITE HAVE IT ALL BUTTONED UP. AND THAT WIND CUTS RIGHT THROUGH YOU. HOWEVER, THAT WIND SHOULD BE GETTING A LITTLE BIT LIGHTER FOR US LATER ON TODAY, BUT LET’S START WITH THE LATEST INFORMATION. WE HAVE BRAND NEW INFORMATION THAT’S COME IN OVERNIGHT FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE. WE HAVE A FREEZE WARNING THAT’S IN EFFECT THIS EVENING THROUGH ABOUT 8:00 TOMORROW MORNING. IT AFFECTS ASSUMPTION, SAINT CHARLES, SAINT JAMES, SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST, UPPER LAFOURCHE, UPPER TERREBONNE PARISHES. THIS IS WHERE TEMPERATURES TOMORROW MORNING MAY BE CLOSE TO OR EVEN BELOW FREEZING. AND OBVIOUSLY THAT’S WHERE WE ARE ON THE NORTH SHORE RIGHT NOW, VERY CLOSE TO FREEZING AND A LOT OF SPOTS. 34 THE CURRENT TEMPERATURE IN BOGALUSA, WE’RE AT 33. IN HAMMOND. 36 OUR CURRENT TEMPERATURE IN HOUMA. THAT DOESN’T TELL THE WHOLE STORY. HERE’S THE WIND. STILL PRETTY SIGNIFICANT WINDS AT 15 TO EVEN CLOSE TO 20MPH AND SOME WIND GUSTS. WE’VE SEEN THEM CLOSE TO 25, EVEN 30. BUT THOSE WINDS ARE GETTING A LITTLE BIT LIGHTER. GRAPHIC OF THE MORNING IS RIGHT HERE. THIS IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU STEP OUTSIDE THE WIND CHILL FACTOR. WE DON’T TALK ABOUT THE WIND CHILL FACTOR THAT MUCH IN LOUISIANA. BUT 26 OUR CURRENT WIND CHILL FACTOR IN BOGALUSA FEELS LIKE 25. IN GULFPORT, 26 IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE IN SLIDELL. BOTTOM LINE, YOUR BIGGEST JACKET, MAYBE EVEN A SCARF. ANYTHING TO GO AHEAD AND PROTECT YOUR NECK BECAUSE THAT WIND IS GOING TO BE A FACTOR THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. STILL HAVE MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER ON THE BACKSIDE OF THIS COLD FRONT. BUT TODAY SHOULD BE A MAINLY SUNNY DAY FOR US. HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING IN DRAWING THAT COLD AIR FROM CANADA. AS A MATTER OF FACT, WE HAVE TEMPERATURES THAT ARE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS IN A LOT OF SPOTS. IT’S THE COLD AIR WILL BE RUSHING DOWN FOR ABOUT THE NEXT 24 TO 36 HOURS. BUT I THINK YOU’RE GOING TO LIKE THE WARMING TREND THAT WE HAVE FOR YOU IN THE FORECAST. LOOK AT THIS 19 IN OKLAHOMA CITY. HOLY COW. THAT’S COLD. 17 SAINT LOUIS. LET’S TAKE YOU HOUR BY HOUR. FIRST OF ALL, WE’RE GOING TO PAUSE THINGS RIGHT HERE AND SHOW YOU THE NOON HOUR. HERE WE ARE JUST BEFORE NOON, ACTUALLY HEADING OUTSIDE FOR LUNCH. YOU’RE STILL GOING TO NEED THAT BIG JACKET BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO BE A TOUCH BREEZY. WE’RE STILL ONLY GOING TO BE IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE THIS AFTERNOON. YOU’RE LOOKING AT IT HERE PROBABLY STRUGGLING TO GET INTO THE LOW 50S. LET’S JUST GO AHEAD AND USE 50 AS A BALLPARK BAROMETER IF YOU WILL. BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT BREEZY. SO YOU’RE GOING TO NEED THE COAT ALL DAY TODAY. ONE MORE COLD NIGHT TONIGHT. BUT IT’S NOT GOING TO BE QUITE AS BREEZY TOMORROW MORNING, SO IT MAY FEEL A LITTLE MORE COMFORTABLE. BUT WE’RE GOING TO BE IN THE UPPER 20S ON THE NORTH SHORE, MID TO UPPER 30S. AS WE GET TO THE METRO. AND I DID SHOW YOU THAT FREEZE WARNING THAT’S IN EFFECT UNTIL 8:00 TOMORROW MORNING. TOMORROW AFTERNOON THOUGH, THAT’S WHAT YOU SHOULD REALLY FOCUS ON, BECAUSE YOUR HIGH TEMPERATURE SHOULD MAKE IT INTO THE UPPER 50S WITH PLENTY OF SUNSHINE. FIVE, 4321. HAPPY NEW YEAR! 49 DEGREES SHOULD BE OUR TEMPERATURE. IF YOU’RE GOING TO CELEBRATE THE NEW YEAR OUTDOORS, 49 DEGREES FOR THE BALL DROP. SO TODAY, SUNNY, BREEZY AND COLD ALL DAY. HIGH TEMPERATURE AT 51 ON THE GRAPHIC. IT’S REALLY GOING TO FEEL MORE LIKE THE 40S WITH THE BREEZE. BUT BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON WE’RE IN THE UPPER 50S. AND AS WE BRING IN THE NEW YEAR BACK TO NORMAL. 67 THURSDAY AND 76 B
