Gentle with showers potential Wednesday
Hotter as we speak and the subsequent couple of days with a slight probability of rain
SURE THAT YOU’RE ON TIME THROUGHOUT THIS WEDNESDAY MORNING. DEREK. ALL RIGHT. BRANDI DEFINITELY A LOT GOING ON IN TRAFFIC AND A LOT GOING ON HERE AT WEATHER AT WDSU. AS WE CONTINUE TO TRACK THIS MAJOR WINTER STORM SYSTEM. BUT WE GOT A FEW DAYS BEFORE WE GET TO THAT, BUT OUT AHEAD OF IT, IT’S DEFINITELY ON THE CLOUDY SIDE AND WE MAY EVEN SEE SOME RAIN SHOWERS TODAY. UPPER LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE SHOWING A LOT OF MOISTURE THAT CONTINUE TO MOVE INTO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA, HELPING TO REALLY INFLUENCE THE CLOUD COVER ALL ACROSS THE GULF SOUTH HERE. AND YOU CAN SEE EVEN A LITTLE BIT OF A DISTURBANCE BACK TO THE WEST, SETTING OFF SOME RAIN SHOWERS AS WELL. SOME OF THAT ENERGY MAY MAKE ITS WAY EAST INTO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA LATER TODAY. BUT AS I MENTIONED, RIGHT NOW IT’S JUST VERY CLOUDY. THESE THICK CLOUDS WILL STICK AROUND ALL THROUGHOUT THE MORNING AND WELL INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS AS WELL. WE MAY SEE A COUPLE OF LIGHT SHOWERS FOR THE NORTH SHORE AND NEAR THE COAST BY AROUND 4:00 IN THE DAY. BY MIDNIGHT TONIGHT WE STILL COULD BE LOOKING AT SOME SHOWERS ON THE NORTH SHORE AND SOME OF THOSE LIGHT SHOWERS MAY ONLY CONTINUE HEADING INTO THE 3:00 HOUR OVERNIGHT TONIGHT AND INTO TOMORROW MORNING AROUND 6 A.M. PARTS OF THE NORTH SHORE MAY TAP INTO A COUPLE OF LIGHT, SCATTERED SHOWERS BEFORE IT REALLY BEGINS TO CLEAR OUT, SAY, AROUND 9:00 OR SO. AND THEN BY 5:00 TOMORROW AFTERNOON, THERE COULD BE SOME MORE SHOWERS, BUT THIS TIME, SOUTH SHORE NEAR THE METRO AND ALL OF THAT BEGINS TO MOVE ITS WAY EAST. I THINK BY 11:00 TOMORROW NIGHT, PARTS OF THE NORTH SHORE AGAIN INTO SOUTH MISSISSIPPI MAY SEE A FEW SHOWERS. AND THAT’S WHY WE DO HAVE RAIN CHANCES IN THE FORECAST. BUT I THINK OUR HIGHEST CHANCES ARE COMING UP THIS WEEKEND, ESPECIALLY MORE SO AS WE HEAD INTO SUNDAY. BUT MEANWHILE, LOOK AT THE RAINFALL FORECAST ANYWHERE BETWEEN AROUND A HALF INCH, JUST OVER AN INCH OF RAIN EXPECTED THROUGHOUT THESE NEXT SEVEN DAYS. IF YOU ADD UP ALL THE AMOUNTS HERE COMING UP. SO WE’RE LOOKING AT SOME WET CONDITIONS AND ALSO SOME LOCALLY HIGHER TOTALS CAN’T BE COMPLETELY RULED OUT EITHER. BUT REALLY ALL EYES ARE ON THIS BIG HISTORIC WINTER STORM SYSTEM. AS A MATTER OF FACT, DEVELOPING ACROSS THE MIDWESTERN UNITED STATES SOUTH INTO THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES, YOU CAN SEE ALL THE ICE AND SNOW THAT’S EXPECTED TO DEVELOP WITH THIS SYSTEM. BUT HERE ON THE GULF COAST, I’M REALLY THINKING A LOT OF US ARE JUST GOING TO BE LOOKING AT RAIN AND ALSO IN THE FORM OF SOME COLD RAIN, WHILE ALL THE WINTRY PRECIPITATION CONTINUES TO STAY WELL OFF TO THE NORTH OF US. BUT I AM THINKING BY SUNDAY EVENING ALL OF THIS MESSY WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO BE EAST OF US. BY THAT POINT, HOWEVER, WE’RE GOING TO BE ON THE BACKSIDE OF IT. AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. IT’S GOING TO BE VERY COLD BEHIND IT. HIGH PRESSURE ALSO BUILDING IN SETTLING IN ALL THAT COLD AND DRY WEATHER AS WE GO INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. SO THIS IS WHAT WE’RE EXPECTING RIGHT NOW. WE’RE ABOUT 3 TO 4 DAYS OUT. USUALLY WHEN WE’RE AROUND 3 TO 4 DAYS OUT. THAT GIVES US A BETTER IDEA OF SOME OF THE IMPACTS AND THE PRECIPITATION IN THE PRECIPITATION TYPES. WITH THIS SYSTEM, THE CURRENT STORM TRACK IS FROM THE WESTERN GULF TOWARDS THE NORTHEAST INTO THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES. SO IF THIS TRACK DOES HOLD, ALL THE SNOW WILL BE MAINLY NORTH. THE ICE AGAIN MAINLY NORTH OF US AS WELL. SO I AM THINKING THAT A LOT OF US ARE JUST GOING TO BE TAPPING INTO THE RAIN HERE ACROSS MUCH OF THE GULF COAST, INCLUDING US IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA. MOST OF OUR COMPUTER FORECAST MODELS DO AGREE THAT WE’LL SEE MAINLY IN THE FORM OF RAIN. AS FAR AS OUR PRECIPITATION TYPES GO. AND AGAIN, THE GFS AMERICAN MODEL A LITTLE BIT FURTHER SOUTH. HOWEVER, KEEPING THE ICY CONDITIONS MAINLY JUST TO OUR NORTH, BUT IT DOES TOUCH SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI INTO THE NORTH SHORE. SO SOMETHING TO KEEP AN EYE ON. BUT AGAIN, YOU CAN JUST SEE HOW COLD OUR TEMPERATURES WILL EXPECTED TO GET INTO THE 40S. AS WE HEAD INTO NEXT WEEK, LOOK AT THESE WIND CHILL FACTORS INTO THE TEENS AND 20S. ON SOME OF THESE DAYS. GOING INTO THE BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK AS WELL. AND THAT’S A LOOK A
