THAT MEANS MORE OF THE BEST MUSIC, THE BEST CUISINE FROM ALL ACROSS THE CITY, AND THE FREEDOM OF HAVING A GOOD TIME WITH THOSE YOU LOVE. YEAH. AND TODAY OFFICIALLY KICKS OFF A WEEKEND OF FEASTING. ALL RIGHT. WDSU REPORTER SHAY O’CONNOR LIVE FROM THE FAIRGROUNDS WITH MORE ON WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT THIS BUSY WEEKEND. SHAY GIVEN. GOOD EVENING TO YOU BOTH. YEAH, THIS WEEKEND OR DAY TWO HAS OFFICIALLY KICKED OFF A WEEKEND OF FEASTING FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. AS YOU CAN SEE, A VERY LARGE CROWD OUT HERE. BECAUSE GUESS WHAT, Y’ALL? GLADYS KNIGHT HAS OFFICIALLY HIT THE STAGE. I’M JUST WAITING TO HEAR MIDNIGHT TRAIN TO GEORGIA, ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS, BUT JUST SOME REMINDERS AS YOU PREPARE TO HEAD OUT. REMEMBER YOU WILL SEE MORE BARRICADES AND BARRIERS UP AS POLICE TRY TO PROTECT FESTIVAL GOERS, POLICE CHIEF ANNE KIRKPATRICK ACTUALLY JUST SPOKE WITH ME NOT TOO LONG AGO AND SAYS OUR CITY IS KNOWN TO HAVE SOME OF THE BEST CROWD CONTROL BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF FESTIVALS AND EVENTS WE HAVE ANNUALLY. SHE SAYS PARKING WILL LIKELY BE A CHALLENGE IF YOU’RE TRYING TO GET CLOSE TO THE FAIRGROUNDS THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF SAFETY MITIGATIONS, YOU ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO MAYBE TAKE AN UBER OR A BUS, OR BE PREPARED TO WALK SOMEWHAT OF A DISTANCE TO THIS AREA. IT’S A TRADE OFF BECAUSE WE HAVE STOPPED THE TRAFFIC ABILITY TO COME IN CLOSER TO THE MAIN STREET OUT THERE, AND IT IS FOR TRAFFIC MITIGATION. SO IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE, BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, IT KEEPS YOU SAFER. AND AS YOU CAN SEE, I MEAN IT IS A HUGE CROWD OUT HERE AT THE CONGO SQUARE STAGE. BUT THERE ARE OTHER STAGES WITH EVEN MORE PEOPLE OUT. Y’ALL REMEMBER, LOCALS GET A CHANCE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DISCOUNTED TICKETS ALL WEEKEND LONG.
