Extra probabilities of rain within the forecast
Awaiting extra moist climate forward
RECOVER. WE’VE EXPERIENCED SOME HEAVY DOWNPOURS RECENTLY HERE IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AS WELL, AND WE’RE EXPECTING MORE RAIN IN THE COMING DAYS. LET’S TURN IT OVER TO FIRST WARNING METEOROLOGIST DEREK SIBLEY ON WHEN THE RAIN IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE REGION. SO BASICALLY, DON’T PUT AWAY OUR RAIN GEAR JUST YET. RIGHT DEREK? YEAH THAT’S RIGHT SALLY. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU KEEP IT HANDY OR AT LEAST CLOSE BY BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH TOMORROW MAY NOT BE A WASHOUT COMPARED TO LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TODAY, AS AN EXAMPLE, WE MAY SEE SOME OF THAT HERE AGAIN OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER TOMORROW, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, I’M THINKING IS THE BEST TIME FRAME TO SEE SOMETHING LIKE ANYTHING SIMILAR TO WHAT WE HAD HERE TODAY. WE HAD AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVE THROUGH, AND ALSO WE ALSO WERE TRACKING A COUPLE OF FRONTS HERE NEARBY AT THE SURFACE, AND THAT ALLOWED THE SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM TO REALLY TAKE OFF HERE ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA, MAINLY DURING THE LATE MORNING TO EARLY AFTERNOON. SOME PARTS OF THE SOUTH SHORE DID SEE SOME FREQUENT LIGHTNING ACTIVITY, AS WELL AS THAT DISTURBANCE MOVE THROUGH THE RAINFALL TOTALS WERE RATHER IMPRESSIVE. MANY LOCATIONS ACROSS SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA SAW WELL OVER AN INCH OF RAIN. TODAY’S HIGH TEMPERATURES WERE WELL INTO THE MID 60S. SOME LOCATIONS CLOSER DOWN TOWARDS THE COAST, NEARING THOSE UPPER 60S. HOWEVER, FOR NEW ORLEANS, OUR HIGH TEMPERATURE TODAY WAS 66 DEGREES, STILL A FEW DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE. THE LOW IS 5710 DEGREES ABOVE THE AVERAGE LOW OF 47 DEGREES FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. HERE’S WHERE WE CURRENTLY STAND. UPPER 50S NORTH SHORE, LOWER 60S. FOR MUCH OF THE SOUTH SHORE AND DOWN TOWARDS THE COAST AS WELL. FORECAST FOR THE REST OF TONIGHT DOES CALL FOR A MOSTLY CLOUDY ONE, DRIER TWO AND WARMER WITH THE LOW TEMPERATURES TOMORROW MORNING INTO THE UPPER 50S. NORTH SHORE, MAINLY TOWARDS THE LOWER 60S DOWN TOWARDS THE SOUTH SHORE AND ALSO NEAR THE COAST. THE REST OF THE DAY TOMORROW. JUST BE AWARE, WE COULD BE LOOKING AT SOME MORNING FOG POTENTIAL. I’VE SEEN SOME MODEL DATA SHOWING THAT WE COULD BE ANYWHERE BETWEEN AROUND ZERO VISIBILITY TO AROUND A HALF A MILE VISIBILITY, ESPECIALLY ON THE SOUTH SHORE. SO JUST A HEADS UP, MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. MAYBE A SHOWER OR TWO POSSIBLE WITH AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES INTO THE UPPER 60S TO LOWER 70S TOMORROW AFTERNOON, A CHECK ON THE TEMPERATURE GRAPH HERE. COMING UP, YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE STAYING PRETTY WARM LOW TO MID 70S OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS UP UNTIL WE REACH AROUND WEDNESDAY, BECAUSE THAT’S WHEN ANOTHER STRONG FRONT COULD MOVE IN, AND THAT’S WHEN WE’RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT TEMPERATURES DROPPING BACK INTO THE UPPER 60S BY AROUND MIDWEEK HERE COMING UP. SO THE STATIONARY FRONT LOOKS LIKE IT’S NOT GOING TO MOVE A WHOLE LOT. SHOULD BE STICKING AROUND ACROSS MUCH OF THE GULF COAST. THAT’S GOING TO ALLOW THE CLOUD COVER TO CONTINUE TO ENHANCE ACROSS THE AREA. HERE IT LOOKS LIKE THROUGHOUT THE DAY TOMORROW, MAYBE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A SHOWER OR ANY SOME OF THE THICKER CLOUD COVER. HERE WE GO. AS WE HEAD INTO TOMORROW AFTERNOON AROUND SIX, AND WE’RE STILL LOOKING AT PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES. THAT FRONT BEGINS TO TRANSITION MORE TO A WARM FRONT AND MOVES NORTH. AND THEN WE’RE GOING TO BE ON THE BACK SIDE. SO WE GOT THAT SOUTH WIND COMING UP FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO. THAT’S WHY THE TEMPERATURES GO UP AND OUR HUMIDITY WILL ALSO GO UP. ALSO LOOK AT THIS PRETTY STRONG LINE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING TO OUR WEST FOR FRIDAY MORNING HERE. AND THAT’S ACTUALLY OUT AHEAD OF A DEVELOPING COLD FRONT THAT WILL START TO PUSH IN. BUT THAT LINE OF SHOWERS AND STORMS BEGINS TO WEAKEN HERE A LITTLE BIT AS IT APPROACHES SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA. BUT WE’RE STILL KEEPING THE RAIN CHANCES IN PLAY, THOUGH FOR FRIDAY AFTERNOON. AND AS A MATTER OF FACT, WE COULD BE LOOKING AT AROUND 60% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LATER IN THE DAY. SO JUST BE AWARE OF THAT. AND ALSO, AS WE HEAD INTO SATURDAY FROM ANOTHER DISTURBANCE. LESS RAIN CHANCES THOUGH, FOR MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. ANYWHERE BETWEEN AROUND 1 TO 2IN OF RAIN WITH ISOLATED HIGHER TOTALS ALSO POSSIBLE IN SOME OF THOSE HEAVIER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.
