NOPD federal consent decree might be winding down

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A brand new improvement emerged within the NOPD’s federal consent decree on Friday, Sept. 27.

The Metropolis of New Orleans and the Division of Justice are reportedly asking a federal decide to finish it.

If accredited by the decide, a 2-year “sustainment interval” will start as soon as all the police division’s issues have been addressed.

Louisiana Lawyer Basic Liz Murrill mentioned in a press release “I hope this can be a significant path to cut back the scope of oversight and to create objectively measurable metrics centered on returning energy and oversight to the individuals, not the federal courts.”
