VISIT THESE 14 CROSSES ON CANAL STREET TO PAY RESPECT TO THE VICTIMS. THAT IT COULD BE ANY OF US, ANY OF OUR LOVED ONES. IT JUST IT JUST BRINGS IT HOME. EVERY DAY IS A GIFT, AND ANY MOMENT YOUR LIFE CAN CHANGE. I JUST FEEL FOR THEM SO MUCH. IT COMES AS THE ORLEANS PARISH CORONER, DOCTOR DWIGHT MCKENNA, WHO IS CHARGED WITH NAMING EACH OF THESE PEOPLE, SAYS HE JUST COMPLETED ALL OF THEIR AUTOPSIES. THAT IS, FOR ALL 14 INNOCENT LIVES LOST AND THE SUSPECT CALLED FOR ALL OF US. BUT IT WAS A JOB WE HAD TO DO, AND WE FINALLY COMPLETED IT. JUST A FEW HOURS AGO. THAT MEANS THE PROCESS OF RELEASING THEIR BODIES TO FAMILIES AND FUNERAL HOMES HAS NOW BEGUN. BUT THE SUSPECT’S BODY, MCKENNA TELLS ME, IS BEING HELD, PER AN FBI REQUEST. AS FOR THE TASK ITSELF, THE CORONER SAYS THEY WORKED AROUND THE CLOCK AND QUICKLY WITH ALL HANDS ON DECK SO THEY COULD NOTIFY FAMILIES. BUT IT IS CLEAR THE PAIN PERMEATES THROUGH ALL OF US, EVEN THE PEOPLE AND OFFICES WHO DEAL WITH LOSS OF LIFE DAILY. I CAN GUARANTEE YOU IT AFFECTED ALL OF US, BUT WE ALL KNEW WE HAD A JOB TO DO.
