This week on Behind The Lens, with the explosion in the usage of AI, a brand new report warns that Huge Tech’s fast buildout of knowledge facilities throughout the South might usher in a model new wave of environmental and financial harms for Black and working-class communities, drawing parallels to the world’s notorious Most cancers Alley. Critics warn that the buildout of high-tech information facilities by corporations like Meta, Amazon, and Google, will go away residents with larger utility payments, water shortage, and elevated air pollution.

And in 2016, Louisiana obtained practically 50 million {dollars} in federal grant cash to relocate 37 residents or households of a once-thriving fishing neighborhood in Terrebonne Parish, as climate-charged hurricanes and sea-level rise made the world more and more uninhabitable. Now practically 10 years on, the previous island residents say their new inland houses are substandard, with rainwater seeping by doorways, and flooded yards inflicting expensive repairs.
